Hello singers! My name is Alex Ritter, and I am the director for the Tilden Community Choir. Each year near Christmas time, the Tilden Community Choir performs a special musical work called a “Christmas Cantata” to help usher in the Christmas season for our community, and bring the message of the true meaning of Christmas in a fresh and meaningful way.

What is a “Christmas Cantata” you ask? A Christmas cantata is like a short musical play or concert written for the Christmas season. It tells the Christmas story (the birth of Jesus) through a mix of choir singing, solos, narration, and acting. Unlike a full musical or opera, it’s shorter and designed for church or community performances during Advent or Christmas. Our cantatas usually last about 45 minutes. You can watch our Christmas Cantata from last year at the following link: Tidings of Joy. This year we will be performing Pepper Choplin’s One Silent Night on December 14th.

There’s only one requirement to join the choir – you must LOVE to sing! We welcome singers of all ages and ALL skill levels. Not sure if you can commit to all the rehearsals during the holiday season? No problem! We provide online music learning tracks so you can practice on your own if you need to miss any rehearsal time. There are only two required rehearsals for staging purposes once the performance draws near. We have some college student singers who can only make it back for those rehearsals, and still perform wonderfully with us! No obligations – just good company and great music. All rehearsals and the performance are held at Peace United Church of Christ in Tilden, NE.
